Day of Impact 6.0
Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (EDT)
Join us for a high-impact day of service to show the difference 100+ young professionals can make in one morning of work in Indianapolis.
Along with Giving Sum and the Urban League YPs, IndyHub has been keeping a keen eye on the drought updates. Our lawns and the grassy areas near us are crunchy. We cringe at the photos of our city's depleted reservoirs and the news of recent grass fires. Despite our best rain dance efforts, we see a water ban on the horizon. But really, even if a ban doesn't happen and Indy gets a fabulous soaking rain storm tomorrow (sounds nice, doesn't it?) we know it's going to take some time for our city's water reserve to build back up. With this in mind, we don't feel good about using a lot of water for our planned power washing and we've decided to alter our work plans for Saturday's Day of Impact, presented by TCU, at Arlington High School. We'll still be there, and we hope you will be too -- weeding, trash collecting and organizing. We like to think of this as a Day of Impact in two parts…on Saturday we’ll prep, inventory and identify needs, and later this fall when our city's natural resources have replenished, we’ll power-wash, paint and make Arlington's football field one to really be proud of.
Bring a pair of work gloves! We've narrowed in on four projects we can do, and do well, to prep for the coming school year and the work we hope to return for later.
1. Trash - We need a team of volunteers who will walk the grounds - football, baseball and practice fields - and clean things up. Dumpster and trashbags provided.
2. Weeds - Do you have a spades, edging tools or a weed eater in your garage? We need a team of volunteers who can cover the same ground and pull up the weeds.
3. Athletics storage rooms - Because Ed Power has only had the keys to Arlington for a couple weeks now, they haven't yet had a chance to take inventory of what they have - to know what they need. We need a team of volunteers who can get in those rooms behind the home football stands, unload, take inventory of what's there and reload like items. At the end we'll hand over a list of what we found so the school's team knows where to go next.
4. Supplies - Lets help the Arlington equip their classrooms for the coming school year. Supplies needed include: pencils, 3-ring binders, college-rule notebooks, college-rule filler paper, copier paper and dry erase markers. We'll also have a bucket if you'd like to make a cash or check donation on site directly to Arlington High School, those funds will go directly to school supplies.
Can't be there in person but still want to help out?
A $5-10 donation may not seem like it will do much, so why bother? Multiply a few of those and we're getting somewhere! Any amount is sincerely appreciated and will go towards supplies needed to get the work done. Donate online.
Hosted by IndyHub, Giving Sum and Indianapolis Urban League Young Professionals, we hope all of you will join us in making this day a huge success!
